Nick: I just feel like she's messing with me.
Thom: Who are you talking about?
Nick: Right now, Norah. No, Tris. Tris.
Thom: You just haven't figured it out yet, have you?
Nick: What?
Thom: The big picture!
Nick: I guess not...
Thom: The Beatles.
Nick: What about them?
Thom: This! [he grabs Nick's hand] Look, other bands, they want to make it about sex or pain, but you know, The Beatles, they had it all figured out, okay? "I Want to Hold Your Hand." The first single. It's fucking brilliant, right?... That's what everybody wants, Nicky. They don't want a twenty-four-hour hump sesh, they don't want to be married to you for a hundred years. They just want to hold your hand.
- Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist
I love this. Almost as much as I love The Beatles. Definitely one of the truest statements ever made. Not only about relationships and people, but about The Beatles in general. I have always been in love with their music and it just gets better every time I listen to it. So simple. So very true. Says everything I ever wanted to say to someone in less than 4 minutes.
Although "I Want to Hold Your Hand" is one of my very favorites, "Hey Jude" makes me the most nostalgic. Not just because of the lyrics, but because of the actual music. My 8th grade jazz band played "Hey Jude" for one of our concerts and I remember being put on 1st part with the first chair player. Listening to "Hey Jude" it doesn't sound like the most technically complicated song. But toward the end there's a sax part that's basically one of the hardest runs I've ever played, to this day. Every time I listen to "Hey Jude" I think of that Sax part, how long it took me to get it perfect, and how damn good we sounded once we did get it perfect.
And the lyrics, as usual - Beatles Genius:
Hey Jude
don't be afraid
You were made to go out and get her
The minute you let her under your skin
Then you begin to make it better
And any time you feel the pain, Hey Jude, refrain
Don't carry the world upon your shoulders
For well you know that it's a fool who plays it cool
By making his world a little colder
Hey Jude don't let me down
You have found her now go and get her
Remember to let her into your heart
Then you can start to make it better
If only I could actually take the advice of John, Paul, George & Ringo. . .
